IF

If

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;

If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build 'em up again, with wornout tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on";

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;

If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!

The Soul Support Book

So, I'm waiting in the Dr.'s office, and I'm in the lobby waiting to be seen.  There's quite a few people waiting today.  There's a crappy magazine table that probably has a trillion germs all over them. (Yikes!)  On the end table closest to me, I see this book: The Soul Support Book by Deb Koffman, so I start thumbing through it.  Immediately, I was captivated.  I mean, there were some of the most simple messages in such a small book.  What a treasure.  For example:

Courtesy of Amazon Book Preview

Just a simple drawing but a deep truth.  I had an old boss who always used to quote his boss saying: "There's always a better way; you just have to find it."  I loved that, and it stuck with me.  When I saw this book, specifically this page, I was brought back to this simple truth.  Sometimes, we get so caught up in "How things SHOULD be" or "How things HAVE to be", but the truth is very rarley do our big "life's plans" go the way we picture them to be.  The important thing is when all else fails, find another way.  My favorite quote or life saying says: Success is a journey, not a destination. Who cares if we get stuck somewhere, or we get beaten down along the way.  So what if your past is beating you down.  You can make it through.  You might just have to find another way than the way you originally planned.  The great news is THERE IS ALWAYS ANOTHER WAY!

AF Tracker App Helps Air Force Members Get Fit

Below is the press release for my 1st app that hit the iTunes App Store on 23JAN11. This was a milestone for meDEVELOPMENT LLC. I am looking forward to the success of this app and the future apps that I will be releasing.

AF Tracker Helps Air Force Members Get Fit

Physical fitness is a prime concern for those in the Air Force.  In 2010, the Air Force instituted a new and more rigorous physical fitness standard.  The new AF Tracker app will help all service members track their physical fitness status to make sure they are meeting the requirements based off Air Force Instruction.  AF Tracker is also working to provide features to help all Airmen maintain and advance in their careers.

Service member, Julio Medina, through meDEVELOPMENT, LLC, developed AF Tracker.  The application is compatible with the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.  It can be obtained, free of charge, in the iTunes App Store.  The PT Calculator is a main feature that calculates a physical fitness score based on user-entered information.  This feature calculates fitness scores based on the number of push-ups and sit-ups completed and the time required to run 1.5 miles.  It also takes into account the age of the user and any medically exempt exercises while including points based off of waist size.  The PT Calculator will always be free of charge.  Other premium features will be available in the future for a small cost as an in app purchase.

The new physical fitness standards, enacted by the Air Force, represent the most strenuous in over a decade.  The changes were made to promote a fitness-based culture that enhances the mission readiness of Airmen.  The new fitness program accords a specific percentage to individual fitness tasks.  The 1.5-mile run accounts 60% of the total score, body composition accounting for 20%, with push-ups and sit-ups accounting for 10% each.

Five age categories are included in the PT Calculator.  They range from less than 30 to age 60 and over.  An excellent score is 90 points and above.  Scores of 76 to 89 are rated as satisfactory while 75 or less is unsatisfactory.  The PT Calculator included in AF Tracker is an ideal tool to help those in the Air Force monitor the various physical tasks required, as well as their scores.

AF Tracker is devoted to providing an upcoming feature that will allow Airmen to enter the due date of their annual PT Test.  This feature will send Airmen reminders one month, two weeks and one week prior to their due date.  This is especially important, as the Air Force has deemed it the responsibility of each Airmen to know their exact due date.  Medina also hopes to include the following features and many more in future updates.

  • Fitness Tracker
  • WAPS Calculator
  • Bullet Tracker

Fans can follow the app on De.licio.us, Facebook, Twitter, Reddit and Digg.

Fight The Good Funk.

Fight the good funk.

Alright, let me just tell you right off the bat this post is about depression so if the word depression scares you off stop reading here! Being that we are midway through the first month of the year, I think it’s safe to say that 2011 is flying by.  I wanted to write about something that I have learned about myself and in turn maybe you can identify with it. If not maybe you just read along and say, wow, what a weirdo. Either way, keep moving along. I titled this fight the good funk because on a daily basis we ALL do what we consider to be fighting the good fight. We have a routine that we follow whether it is waking up and going to work at the butt crack of dawn, maybe you wake up a little bit later and get your kids ready for school. Maybe you are unemployed and you wake up with a plan to look for work actively. MAYBE, you are just a bum and you wake up and that’s as far as it goes. Either, way we all have a certain routine that we follow in this game that we call ‘life’ with that being said it’s very easy to find yourself in a funk from your daily routine and in turn become depressed. I am no doctor but I will tell you this life has so many ups and downs that it can be easy to slip into an unhappy or depressed state of mind. It almost comes natural with daily life. We have good days and then we have the bad ones. (I hate those!) But did you know that you are not alone when the bad days get you down. I was reading a survey and 1 out of every 6 adults will have depression at some time in their lives and it affects about 15 million American adults every year. YOU ARE NOT ALONE! (If you have not experienced it yet in your adult years, you can thank me for giving you something to possibly look forward to. ha-ha) While I am being light hearted about it true depression is more than just a bad day or being moody it is a mental illness that can affect your entire body, mood and thoughts that seem cannot be willed or wished away.

I find myself easily falling into a seasonal depression around this time of year, it gets dark out early now for the winter months and I go into work when it’s dark out and I get home when it’s dark out and it just seems downright gloomy.  I get tired and sure enough I become unhappy.  However, on the bright side of things the spring is only a few months away and I have lots of plans to for this spring and summer so that is something that can really help.  The important thing is, if you find yourself in a ‘funk’ find your way right back out.  I know this may sound crazy but now that I have studied myself and I know that, “Well, I always get kinda depressed around this time of year.” I can acknowledge it and keep pressing on. I would hope the same for you.  So if you are feeling down in the proverbial dumps and life just sucks at the moment, here is a little hope for you from someone that has been in the same boat…It’s only life and things will go back to normal just like they always do. I am reminded of the Lyrics to a song by Juelz Santana that says “Life changes on daily basis every minute every hour still we try to save it but I gotta keep moving and make it.”   Have a listen if you want here…..

Get out and make a change. Take control of the funk that you are in and switch things up a little bit. It’s the only way out. While this advice can seem much easier said than done, you really don’t know till you give it a shot. Well I won’t make this too long. I will leave you with this thought: Don’t take life too serious you will never get out alive. Worrying is like sitting in a rocking chair, it gives you something to do but never get s you anywhere.
